For as long as I can remember, motorcycles have been a part of my life.
I practically grew up on them. In all their variations – mini bikes, three wheelers, dirt bikes, street bikes.
You could say that motorcycles are a source of fun. And that’s true. But they are also something else…
They are freedom machines.
Motorcyclists use the word “freedom” to describe the feeling they get when they ride, associating it with the open road, the wind in their hair, escaping into the mountains and canyons. There’s a sense of letting go, of being untethered. Not a care in the world.
And let’s face it, there’s a lot to be concerned about right now. A raging pandemic that has devastated so many financially. High unemployment, long lines at food banks and bankruptcies are the staple headlines of the news for much of this year.
Prior to the pandemic, many had grown numb to the comfort of routine. So numb that they didn’t feel a thing as their life slipped away like sand in an hour glass.
Tick another business meeting out of town away from family. Tock another day of having their opinion given to them by a crazy boss. Tick another day at the office, at a job they hate. Tock another year gone by.
And the same will be said this time next year, unless something is done about it. You see, if anything, the pandemic has revealed the great divide that’s existed for centuries. The haves and the have-nots. Between the people who want to just get by and the people who want a better life.
So, as we stand on a precipice of a new year, what sort of freedom will you pursue this year?
Will it be the temporary version – hurried weekends and the two weeks of your time that you’re allowed to reclaim each year? Will it be the short evenings of the workaday life or the long days of the financially free life? Will you just taste freedom or will you hop aboard the ultimate freedom machine – wealth?
If it’s the latter, then you must embrace it fully. Grasp it with both hands until your knuckles turn pale. Don’t let the cheap thrill of comfort take you down the one way road to mediocrity. Rise above routine monotony. Don the uniform of the restless and get uncomfortable with being comfortable.
We all have free will, and we all have a destiny. You can change your destiny anytime with your free will.
If you have a feeling that you’re destined to become someone different than who you are currently, then make a choice to go down a different path this year. Make the choices, daily, that influence your path to financial freedom; direct it.
Freedom is a byproduct of making choices, and owning them. You will be who you are this time next year based solely on your choices; what you choose to do, think, believe, absorb, react to, and ignore.
You can choose any path this year, and it will take you to your next destination. Will that destination be financial freedom?
Be free. Nothing else is worth it.
